My selections are so pulpy. Four, count ‘em, *four* Boris Vallejo covers. Well, I’ve also got a Tom Wolfe, Confederacy of Dunces, and a bunch of other things, but that’s not the point. PULP

CONFEDERACY OF DUNCES! How I miss high school reading assignments.

Vallejo on the bottom row. Shocking, only spectacular boobs on one, but since the other three are all MOTHERFUCKIN DRAGONS I suppose it’s fair.

I’ve missed reading it until now, but it’s supposed to be a pillar of comedy literature, so...

Oh, and the used book store is short on Heinlein, Doc Smith , *and* George MacDonald Fraser , curse them. Pickings are slim.

That some pulp is trash doesn't make all pulp bad. At least you didn't pick up any Dean Koontz, or, god forbid, Twilight or 50 Shades. I think you're alright, Rover. ^_^

There’s Odd Thomas Koontz (which I’ve never read beyond excerpts), and then there’s sex with ghosts or some crazy shit Koontz. I read one at one point that took a screwy turn of that nature - I don’t even remember what it was exactly - and was left somewhat Castle.
Thanks, but no thanks, Dean. Kind of why I had to quit reading Dale Brown. There’s something to be said for being a Tom Clancy On Drugs style, but after Flight of the Old Dog (about halfway through Tin Man, if I’m honest), it went full flaming apeshit batfuck lucid dreaming glue-snorting wackadoodle. It takes talent to jump within the space of a book from semi-plausible to This Is Clearly Science Fantasy That I’m Pretending Is Plausible And By The Way Would You Like Some Of My Crack While I Write This Sex Scene. Not the kind of talent I’m going to engage, however.

I should note - some authors can slide effortlessly into magical realism or weirdness even in romance at the drop of a hat and keep things natural and not uncomfortable. Mary Stewart is one. One I’ll admit to reading, even. Dean Koontz is *not* one.

Only Boris, no Julie?
My last trip to my local used bookstore I scored some Dashiell Hammett and a copy of Urshurak.
I’ve yet to read any of them...
Cool thing to note. Years ago, my family planned a trip to the Brothers Hildebrandt gallery. It was a by appointment affair, and due to low attendance they decided to close the gallery. We were the only ones signed up so they invited us to their home and Greg and Tim personally gave us a tour. We had lunch at their house and then were invited to their studio, where they showed us how they worked and a bunch of preliminaries for their current project.
Superman: Last God of Krypton
I had almost forgotten about that day. Two of the kindest people I’ve ever met.
